Otto looked at the cake that had quietly "appeared" in front of him, pursed his lips, then looked up again.
He saw Lu Mian happily bidding farewell to Kallen without turning back, leaving only her departing figure and a carefree line:
"Good things shouldn't go to waste. She doesn't eat the same things as you. Let's go~ Let's play!"
…
Otto watched Lu Mian and Kallen disappear into the distance, then turned to gaze at the warm sun hanging in the clear blue sky outside the window. He smiled silently.
Though he was never fond of sweets, he finished the cake in three bites and downed his black tea in one go.
After a brief moment of thought, he untied his single ponytail, letting his waist-length golden hair fall freely over his back. Then, he slipped a leather wristband on and pulled out a large book from his bag to read.
He remained immersed in that book for the entire afternoon.
By evening, the gentle warmth of sunset filled the shop.
Lu Mian returned with Kallen, now dressed in her new outfit, and spotted Otto still buried in his book.
"What, reading spellbooks again? Why do you still look like a monk?" Lu Mian said playfully as she approached Otto.
"No," Otto closed the book, casually shook his hair out and tied it up again. "Always tying it up is boring. Let it down for a while—feels freer."
Lu Mian raised an eyebrow, then shifted her gaze to Kallen, who was still admiring herself in her new outfit.
Otto, even with his scholarly charm, gave off a certain graceful femininity.
Kallen, though adorable, couldn't quite match Otto's subtle allure.
…But that's not my fault, Lu Mian thought to herself. I'm not taking the blame for that.
She cleared her throat and refocused. "Ahem. Otto, what do you think of Kallen's new outfit?"
Otto blinked, then finally turned to look at Kallen.
Her hair was still the same — snowy-white and braided into a ponytail that fell to her waist. But now it was adorned with a ribbon: blue with white trim.
Gone was the nun's uniform. In its place: a pure white tailored battle dress accented with Klein blue lines. A holy white flower bloomed at her chest, complemented by a pleated skirt, white tights, and white-blue boots.
Elegant and sacred. Efficient, yet graceful.
Otto turned to Lu Mian and gave a short, firm judgment: "Looks good."
Lu Mian wasn't satisfied with that answer. She pointed back to Kallen. "Okay but—who looks better, me or her?"
Otto looked at Kallen again. "Beautiful."
…But no one knew who he was really thinking about.
You watched Otto's distracted expression, scratched your head, and said nothing more—just admired your own handiwork.
Sure, you could've lazily recreated Kallen's outfit from the "Sixth Night Rhapsody" fragments in her memory.
But after giving it serious thought, you didn't. In fact, you completely dropped the "Purple Iris" motif.
Because… you wanted *your* Kallen to be different from the one that lived in vague memory.
It was the same as when you personally helped Otto into that platinum bishop's uniform.
Back then, you didn't think much of it. But now, you realize—those small changes might be the only real traces you can leave behind.
You hoped that Otto and Kallen would think of you whenever they saw the clothes you made for them.
…Or rather—no. You wished they wouldn't remember you at all.
-----------------------
That night, clad in her custom bandit outfit, Kallen officially launched her campaign of "redistribution through robbery."
In these times, many corrupt priests were abusing indulgences to squeeze both Destiny and the people—accumulating wealth under the guise of faith.
Kallen infiltrated the manor of one of the worst offenders, Archbishop Victor, and stole *all* his gold.
That's it? That's it.
Honestly, you weren't surprised.
Kallen's idea of robbing the rich to help the poor wasn't exactly revolutionary. It was the same as when she used her own allowance to buy out an entire fruit stand from an elderly couple, then handed the fruit to you and Otto.
It felt like a solution—but only on the surface. The same problems would resurface soon enough.
Treating symptoms, not the disease.
Still, you didn't criticize her. Expecting Kallen to come up with something more intense than "steal gold and vanish" was unrealistic.
What mattered more was how she executed the heist.
No injuries. No threats. No casualties. She just took the gold and left.
That's not a "thief." That's… a "bandit."
There was a kind of innocent elegance to it.
If you'd known that this was the kind of "thief" Kallen would become, you might as well have just slapped a black hood on her and called it a day. Save time. Match her style.
But whatever. It's not like you ever supported her because she was flawless or tactical. You were just willing to chase after her dreams, side-by-side—even the naïve ones.
One candy, for an idealist.
That night, the "pure white thief girl" darted across rooftops under moonlight, carrying a bag full of "war trophies."
Back at Victor's estate, the servants and guards were either panicking or furiously yelling.
*Snap—*
A crisp finger snap echoed through the night.
As the sound faded, everyone in the mansion — Victor included — froze with blank expressions.
Lu Mian's figure slowly emerged, shimmering in and out of focus before stabilizing.
He panted slightly, glancing toward the direction Kallen had escaped, then at Victor.
"You're still useful," he muttered coldly. "Nothing happened tonight. Forget everything."
"…Y-Yes…"
Lu Mian then waved his hand subtly, casting a few more instructions to ensure nothing went wrong, and then disappeared in the same direction as Kallen.
A few seconds later, the mansion's staff snapped back to reality—completely forgetting what had happened.
Victor had no memory at all, but his instincts screamed trouble. He sprinted toward the treasure vault in a panic.
Meanwhile, Lu Mian found Kallen showing off her "MVP haul" to Otto.
The moment she saw Lu Mian, Kallen leaped into his arms like a proud little kid.
"I gave all the gold coins to the poor today! Don't you think that'll make life better for them?"
Lu Mian's eyes flicked toward Otto, who looked visibly awkward.
He sighed inwardly.
Stupid girl… real poverty alleviation requires education and infrastructure.
He opened his mouth, paused, then simply reached out to ruffle Kallen's hair.
"Yes… everything will be okay."
