2014.

Far Eastern Region, Changkong City.

The sky rippled like a wrinkled curtain, soaked in orange-red waves. The gentle sun of late spring, like tired eyes, slowly sank into the horizon, casting a beautiful and tragic glow over the world.

But beneath this beauty — was hell.

The once-proud skyscrapers stood shattered, explosions blasting in every direction. Fire raged, and the desperate screams of women echoed through the air, sharp and endless.

The roads lay broken, tangled with wrecked cars, and scattered with twisted corpses of flesh and blood, some deformed beyond recognition — decorations for this nightmarish scene.

Mutated beasts and humanoid monsters, their bodies marked with eerie purple lines, ravaged the streets, trampling everything underfoot.

The air reeked of smoke and blood — death was not just near, it was **visible**.

Beneath the ruins, a young man with black hair leaned against a crumbling wall, his body trembling with pain.

He stood at 1.8 meters, dressed in a blood-soaked white shirt with rolled-up sleeves, black pants, and canvas shoes to match.

His short hair glistened with an ink-like sheen, his chin sharp, nose well-defined, lips thin and colorless.

And those eyes — deep, dark, like ink dancing in spring sunlight, framed by the faint shadow of exhaustion — were breathtaking, yet fragile.

Purple veins had spread along his pale face — evidence of some unholy contamination. Yet even like this, his presence was otherworldly.

**Lu Mian**, 18 years old. A time traveler.

Or more precisely: a time traveler **on the verge of death**.

He had no idea how it happened. One moment he blinked after finishing his college entrance exams and choosing a university — next, he opened his eyes to **this** world in ruins.

Before he could even think, his body began to deteriorate, as if reality itself rejected him. His skin cracked, muscles spasmed in agony, tearing him apart from the inside out.

The only thing Lu Mian had truly done since arriving here… was **endure**. Through the burning, the bleeding, the breakdown of his human shell — he clenched his teeth and held on.

He chuckled bitterly, mouth twitching weakly as his breath grew faint.

At that moment, a monster walked by him — humanoid in form, wielding twin blades, surrounded by grotesque beasts and giant bloodsucking mosquitoes.

Its gaze locked directly onto Lu Mian.

"..."

Lu Mian couldn't even breathe. His failing heartbeat **stopped** for a second.

One second... two... three...

Then, the monster looked away — and moved on.

Whether by fate or twisted mercy, they spared him. Perhaps they saw him as one of their own already.

Either way, **he survived**.

Surrounded by corpses and devouring beasts — this was the world of **Honkai**.

Lu Mian thought this as his beautiful eyes dimmed. He couldn't hold on.

He had struggled until now, but as soon as he realized where — and **when** — he was, the last hope in his chest withered.

He knew. Everyone knew.

In this twisted version of civilization, this crumbling apocalypse... the gender roles were cruel.

Women could mutate, evolve — survive. But ordinary men?

They died. Worthlessly.

And what did it mean for a man to time travel here?

It meant **death**. No, worse — it meant being served up as a special, gift-wrapped offering to this dying world.

How pathetic.

If there's a next life, please… let it be more brilliant.

Lu Mian didn't even have the strength to make that wish. His eyes fluttered shut, heavy as stone. He couldn't open them again.

**"Ding—"**

Not long after losing consciousness, a crystal-clear voice rang in his mind like a chime of salvation.

At the same time, a glowing blue screen blinked into existence before his fading vision.

> **System loading. Current progress: 1%...**

Then a sweet, soft, and slightly panting female voice followed:

> "Finally caught up… Hello, Host~ This is your exclusive Life Simulation System!" Oh!

The system stared down at Lu Mian, seeing him barely breathing — more exhaling than inhaling — and suddenly shrieked:

> "MY HOST!! It took me THREE WHOLE YEARS to find you!! *Sniff sniff sniff sniff~* Aaaah! I'm gonna regret this for the rest of my life!"

> **System loading. Current progress: 3%...**

"Uu—"

Suddenly, the progress panel flickered wildly, like it was punched by someone. Data surged in a chaotic storm.

> "Don't you dare keep loading your goddamn ritual pancakes!! My host is DYING here! Just simulate—SIMULATE NOW!!" the panicked system screamed like a lover about to lose everything.

> **System loaded. Beginning simulation.**

----------------------

**Medieval Europe.**

Lu Mian opened his eyes in a narrow, dirty alley.

He looked down — his body was intact.

He glanced up — sunlight, cobblestones, carriages, townsfolk in medieval garb bustling by.

It felt... absurd.

He didn't even have time to react before this second life started. It was so sudden, like being swept up in a tornado.

"...System?" Lu Mian's voice was dry. "Can I call you that?"

"You're telling me you got so hyped over officially bonding with a host that you stayed up too late last night, overslept, and missed my first-time Honkai experience?"

"...Well… yeah." The system's voice turned soft, sticky with shame and guilt.

From her point of view, it was all her fault. She was late — and Lu Mian almost died for it.

She had to forcibly boot up a simulation just to barely keep him alive.

But Lu Mian didn't blame her. Not really.

In this hell, what kind of time traveler could've survived **without breaking**?

Whether she arrived early or late… it probably wouldn't have changed anything.

He had more important concerns. "Do I get a newbie gift pack?"

"YES!!" Her voice shot up, instantly delighted. "I prepared tons of amazing things for Host! I put them all right here, right he—"

Her joy died out mid-sentence. Silence fell.

Then — the sound of frantic rummaging.

Like a student swearing they finished their homework, only to realize they forgot to bring it to school.

The rustling sound alone was enough to make Lu Mian sweat.

Finally, she whimpered in a trembling voice:

> "I… I packed them. Put them on the table. I just forgot to bring them…"

Lu Mian wiped his face with one hand and let out a broken laugh.

What a duo they were.

Both cursed with bad luck — both barely clinging to existence.

But he didn't really blame her.

Not because he was kind.

Just... because she **gave him a second life**.

That made them partners. Equals.

And anyway — were there **any** people more unlucky than the two of them?
